Band Practice last night, and I got an utterly vile reminder of how much we still need feminism.
On the wall of posters at the practice rooms, where there's usually adverts, "Battle of the Bands seeks Bands", "Guitarist seeks Amp" and occasionally "Drummer seeks rest of band", I spotted one last night.
It read:
"Accomplished female guitarist needed for 8 piece band," experience prefered, friendly company etc, etc, please call [number redacted] or something similar. The usual.
Only it had been graffittied to read:
"Accomplished femaleguitarist Cook needed for 8 piece band course dinner"
The music industry's hard enough to crack into for women as it is, but when you have to put up with that kind of hostility? I'm surprised any of us bother.
